What is the UFC interim heavywieght champion?
I noticed that Frank Mir is the interim heavywiehgt champion. What does this mean, beacuse I know that Brock Lesner is the heavywieght champ.|||If the champ can not defend his belt, sometimes they will set up a temporary title. Randy Cotoure was didn't like his contract so while he wasn't going to fight the UFC set up the temporary title. Nogueira won it, the lost it to Frank Mir, so Brock and Frank unifiy the belt.|||They're both the heavyweight champion, and will unify the belts at UFC 100. Basically long story short, Randy Couture ****** things up. He left the UFC, so the UFC was left without a Heavyweight champion. Tim Sylvia fought Big Nog to determine an Interim Heavyweight Champion since Randy was no longer around. Big Nog won the interim heavyweight championship, Randy came back, thus, 2 heavyweight champions.|||Randy Couture was involved in a contract dispute when he was heavyweight champion. He left the UFC for a while and an interim champion was created in his place. Noguiera beat Tim Sylvia to win it, then Mir beat Nogueira to win it. Mir is fighting Brock Lesnar at UFC 100, July 11, to determine the undisputed champion...so no more interim champs.|||Interim is pretty much temporary. when the champion is unable to fight for an extended amount of time rather than strip him of the title they give it to somebody else "interim" and then whenever the champ is ready to come back they fight to make it undisputed. pretty much the number 1 contender is walking around with the belt until the champ comes back.|||interim is pretty much saying 'partial'...so in the case of Frank Mir/Brock Lesnar...they're both half-champs. they'll face each other @ UFC 100 for the title of 'undisputed champion'|||because cotoure had the belt and took time off and they needed to make it so someone who was fighting could alos have it
