Italy (2006 World Cup Champion) and France (2006 World Cup Runner Up) have both been eliminated. Has this ever happened before, where the champion and runner up both missed the knockout stage?|||This is the first time. Its also the first time that the finalists AND the host country have not advanced|||No. This is the first time it has ever happened.|||Yes, no more lottery world cups.|||Nope first time for that and the host country to not make it to the knockout stages also|||never. COME ON ENGLAND|||I believe it is the first time since the mid 70's, that Italy did not make the second round.
That much I know.
They are gutted, that they are out so early......especially being the defending champs.
France, from what I understand, basically GAVE their slot away. Some political turmoil behind the scenes, and they wanted to throw it. At least that's what they're saying now, and Sarkozy is pissed.
In either case........yup, it's true....they are both out now.
